The quake victims have not received any money since July
Gorkha: Due to the negligence of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), the withdrawal of installment money of the last Saunayata earthquake victims has been stopped. The victims, who have completed all the process of house construction for the last six months of the current year, have not been able to get the installment. Nearly 2,000 earthquake victims who have built houses with loans have become more victims after the installment was stopped.
Min Bahadur Saru of Ripgaon in Palungtar Municipality-2 Amapipal built a two-room house after the earthquake at a cost of Rs 1 million. Saru has moved to a new house last August. But they have not received the second and third installment grants from the government. “I don’t have any financial resources. I built a house by taking a loan as I didn’t have enough money,” he said.Min Bahadur has taken a loan of Rs 4 lakh for house construction. He complained that as the interest on the loan increased, so did the pain. “The second one lakh 50 thousand and the third installment one lakh is yet to come,” he said. “I went to the district headquarters twice and realized. He said that only about 60 people did not receive the installment amount. Due to lack of funds, the distance between the quake victims has increased as the carpenters and dockers have not been paid.
The District Project Implementation Unit (Building) under the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has stated that the money could not be disbursed even to one victim of Saunayata as the NEA did not send the authority. Although the technical inspection of the victims has been completed, the file of installment recommendation has been stopped in the municipality. Most of the victims here have taken loans to build houses after the earthquake. Earthquake victims in remote areas have built houses by transporting rods and cement from mules.
Prakash Ghale of Dharche Gaunpalika-1, Hulchowk said, “The government has to pay Rs 300,000 per kg. The government has to find the remaining loan. It would have been convenient. ‘Nearly 100 victims of Chumunubri and Dharche villages alone have not been able to get the installment. The victim has complained that he could not build a two-room house with Rs 300,000 provided by the government due to high freight rates. Ghale said that the problem was exacerbated when the installment amount was not received on time. Most of the third installment has been stopped, said Engineer Pushparaj Joshi of Arughat Village Municipality under Arughat Reconstruction Authority.
