The future of Nepali youth within the country

The future of Nepali youth within the country

Today’s youth are wandering abroad in search of ordinary jobs in the pursuit of country, family and personal prosperity. It seems that neither the state nor the parents think seriously about this. Recently, more than 2,500 young people have started flying abroad for higher education and employment every day. In the last financial year alone, around nine lakh youths have migrated abroad for employment and studies. According to the Department of Foreign Employment, 775,000 young people have gone abroad for employment in the financial year 2079/80. Similarly, last year, 100,000 Nepali students went abroad for study, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

Whether they are sons of local millionaires or jobbers who are considered to be of good status here, they are so enthralled by the love of foreign countries that they think they are going there to get nectar. Why and how long will this sequence continue? Is it only after going abroad that the youth can raise the veil of Nepali prosperity? These kinds of questions have motivated Nepali youth to go abroad. Why are plans still not formulated after understanding the psychology of the youth? The exodus of the youth means the original void of indigenous creation. Therefore, it has become imperative to use the skills, abilities, time, energy and knowledge of today’s youth to move forward.

The educational quality of Nepal is declining. Universities have evolved as political centers rather than educational and academic centers. Four-year course not being completed even in six years, no guarantee of employment even after graduation, it is necessary to address such problems. Therefore, the first way to prevent youth from going abroad is to improve the shortcomings in the educational sector. The national educational plan should focus on employability education.

In order to enter the government service permanently, a small number have to participate in a highly competitive examination conducted by the Public Service Commission, while temporary or contractual contracts lead to political access and economic manipulation. Even in private sectors people get the jobs on the basis of source and force. Due to the high rate of inflation compared to the increase in service facilities including the salaries and allowances of the employees, even those who have got jobs in the country are not satisfied.

Another main reason why young people do not want to live in the country is the disorganized public service delivery here. Most of the government agencies, universities and public institutions here are becoming so corrupt, the common people have to suffer a lot to get the services provided by them.

Why are plans still not formulated after understanding the psychology of the youth? The exodus of the youth means the original void of indigenous creation. Therefore, it has become imperative to use the skills, abilities, time, energy and knowledge of today’s youth to move forward.

Why don’t the parents who spent five million to send abroad invest the same amount in the country and encourage them to go ahead. Today’s youth and their parents must pay attention to this. It is the youth who build this country. Youth power can never be underestimated. So why Nepali youth are migrating abroad?

To prevent it, it seems that various youth-oriented laws and programs should be formulated and implemented immediately. It cannot be said that the state will not suffer a huge loss in the long run if the psychology of youth migration abroad is not understood. The exodus of precious talent from our country will not be stopped until the young people who jump with joy after getting a visa to go abroad are shown the possibilities in their own country.
