The country’s airlines and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal lost Rs 37 billion in revenue

Nepal’s aviation industry has lost Rs 37 billion in revenue due to the Covid-19 epidemic. According to figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the Nepal Airlines Corporation has lost about Rs 7 billion, the Himalayan Airlines about Rs 3 billion and the domestic airlines about Rs 15 billion.

The report states that the helicopter fare has been maintained at a concessional rate to rescue the passengers of Covid from the helicopter for the sick and other emergency purposes.

Civil aviation and airlines have been affected not only in Nepal but also in the world community. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the number of passengers on international flights and domestic flights on domestic flights dropped by 74 percent and 50 percent in 2020 compared to 2019, respectively. Similarly, in 2021, the number of passengers on international flights is projected to decrease by 67-75 percent and on domestic flights by 20-30 percent.

There are 3 international airlines, 9 domestic airlines and 10 helicopter companies operating in Nepal. At present, 3 Nepali airlines and 27 foreign airlines are operating flights to 32 destinations in 15 countries.
