Norvic International Hospital Pays Rs 1.8 Million in Medical Negligence Settlement
Norvic International Hospital, a prominent private healthcare facility in Thapathali, has paid Rs 1.8 million in compensation to a patient following allegations of medical negligence. The settlement, reached on Tuesday, came about through a mutual agreement overseen by Kathmandu District Court Judge and Consumer Court Chair, Ram Prasad Sharma.
The case involves 70-year-old Usha Devi Yadav, who reportedly suffered paralysis after receiving treatment at Norvic. Her son, Jayaprakash Yadav, filed a complaint with the Kathmandu District Court, which subsequently transferred the case to the Consumer Court in Baisakh earlier this year.
This compensation agreement comes amidst growing tension within Nepal’s medical community, with healthcare professionals protesting against similar court rulings that have mandated other hospitals, including Om Hospital, Grande City Clinic, and Himal Hospital, to pay compensation for patient grievances.
Norvic International Hospital, known as one of Nepal’s most expensive private hospitals, was founded by and is currently chaired by businessman Basant Kumar Chaudhary.
