7 arrested for motorcycle theft

The traffic police have arrested a gang involved in stealing and distributing motorcycles from different places in the kathmadu Valley.

A plainclothes team from the Metropolitan Traffic Police has arrested seven members of a group involved in stealing, dismantling and selling motorcycles in a special operation in different parts of Kathmandu.

The team arrested Narkumar Pudasaini, 19, of Rautahat, Chandranigahapur-9, Santapur and currently residing in Kirtipur, from Pashupati area while changing the number plate of a motorcycle (Pra 3-02-013P 3660) that went missing from Baneshwor in January last year.

Pundalal Budha, 20, of Kirtipur in Jumla Sinja Gaonpalika-6 has been arrested along with his motorcycle from New Road during further investigation, according to the Traffic Police.An old man was arrested along with a motorcycle while he was using BAP-02-025P-1391 by changing the number BAP-02-022P 6518 that went missing from Battisputali on December 25.

Gyanendra Chaudhary, 34, of Sanobharyang, Rautahat Gujra-2, Santosh Kumar Maharjan, 22, of Kirtipur area, Ravi Kumar Kushwaha, 32, of Rautahat Gujra-3, now living in Baneshwor, Kamal Bahadur Basnet, now living in Kirtipur, Udaipur and Kirti of Bara Gadhimai. Chief of the Traffic Division, Senior Superintendent of Police Janak Bhattarai said that Ranjit Prasad Gupta, 22, was arrested.

Chaudhary, who was arrested, has been involved in motorcycle theft before. According to SSP Bhattarai, Chaudhary and Kushwaha of Rautahat were the main members of the motorcycle theft gang. Similarly, Ranjit Prasad Gupta, who was arrested from Kirtipur, was seen keeping the stolen motorcycles safe in the garage, dismantling the goods and altering them, said Bhattarai.It has been revealed that Gupta is also the operator of Ranjit Motorcycle Workshop in Kirtipur. The investigation has revealed that the arrested Gupta and Santosh Maharjan played a key role in finding customers and buying and selling motorcycles at cheap prices.

Of the seven motorcycles recovered, one was a Yamaha R-Fifteen and the other six were 220 cc Pulsar motorcycles, according to the department. Similarly, a 220 cc Pulsar motorcycle with registration number Ba-Pra-02-019P9498 was also recovered from Tahachal in September after the engine and various parts were cut to pieces.

Those arrested have been sent to various metropolitan police circles for necessary action, according to the department.
