Three dozen houses destroyed by fire in Taplejung
Kathmandu, March 2
On Tuesday Morning, a fire broke out at Meringden Rural Municipality in Taplejung district has destroyed around three dozen houses. The fire that started from a house in Dovan Bazaar in the rural municipality is yet to be completely doused.
The local people and police personnel have been trying to control the spread of the fire with the help of a fire engine and excavator brought from the district headquarters, Fungling.
According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police Balnarsingh Rana, the excavators were used to demolish huts on the path of the fire to prevent the inferno from spreading further.
Chairman of the rural municipality, Ganesh Bahadur Limbu said, “The fire has come under control to some extent but it is yet to be completely doused.” He added the rural municipality officials will decide on compensation to the victims.
“There were no casualties as most of the residents in the area had already woken up when the fire started. However, many were not able to salvage their household items as the fire spread rapidly.”
