The number of immigrants going to America through the Darien Gap exceeded 400,000

This year, the number of immigrants crossing the terrible jungle between Panama and Colombia to America has exceeded four million. The government of Panama said on Thursday that this number is 62 percent more than last year. Many Nepalis also choose this route to reach America.

Crossing the Darien Gap to America is considered too risky. This road is densely forested. Migrants using this route also become victims of violence by human trafficking gangs. Criminal gangs stay in the jungles to prey on migrants.

Fortunately, even if they are not robbed, the gangs continue to extort money from the migrants in the name of showing them a safe way. Panamanian officials do not know the actual number of migrants who died in the Darien Gap, a densely forested area. No one has provided them with any information in this regard, but many migrants have died on this difficult journey.

Panama’s Ministry of Interior has said that 420,000 people have gone to the Darien Gap as of Wednesday. Every day, 4,000 migrants go there from Colombia. Most of the people who leave Colombia with their dream of America are citizens of Venezuela, Haiti, Ecuador and Colombia, while some Chinese and Afghans are also among them.

In order to control the incessant influx of immigrants, the Panamanian government has begun returning those who entered its land illegally this month. However, it has not been controlled.

The 100 km long road between Panama and Colombia through mountains and forests is called ‘Darien Gap’. Due to swamps, snakes, wild animals and criminal activities, this route is considered to be the most dangerous migration route in the world. Many people who travel through this route lose their lives.
