Public transport in operation in Kathmandu

Public transport, which was stopped for a long time due to corona, has resumed operations today. According to the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, public transport has started operating in all the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley from today.

Though public transport has come into operation, entry to Kathmandu has been tightened. The order said, “Vehicles carrying essential supplies, ambulances, health workers, security personnel and vehicles other than those approved by the district are barred from entering the valley.”

Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Kali Prasad Parajuli, informed that it has been decided to relax the ban so that the business sector can operate. This time small vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans up to four people), taxis with three occupants and motorcycles, scooters.

Essential services such as ambulance, drinking water, electricity maintenance, health related vehicles, telecommunication, internet maintenance, cargo, courier and postal services, garbage management related means of transportation can be operated. All crowded activities, trade on sidewalks and open spaces, wedding fasts in hotels and party palaces, religious programs other than daily activities will not be allowed. Reading will not be allowed in physical presence.
