Princess Mako renounces royal status for love

Princess Mako of Japan is getting married to her old classmate Kei Komuro. The princess has announced that she will leave her royal family to marry an ordinary man.

Princess Mako, 25, is the granddaughter of the current King Akihito. She was in love with 25-year-old Kei Komuro, a law firm employee. The princess is preparing to get married this month to her boyfriend.

According to the rules of the Japanese royal family, a royal woman loses her royal identity if she marries an ordinary citizen, but it is not so in the case of a man.

The couple is said to be living in the United States after marriage.

Earlier in Japan, some members of the royal family were married to the common people.

The daughter of Emperor Hirohito lost her royal identity as a result of such a marriage.
