Paddy production in Khaetang decreased to four and a half thousand metric tons less than the previous year
Khotang. Paddy production in Khotang has decreased in the current Fiscal Year 2078/07 due to unseasonal rains and strong winds. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Center, paddy production in Khaetang has decreased by 4,643 metric tonnes as compared to last year due to unseasonal rains and strong winds that fell from 31 September to 2 October.
In the last fiscal year 2077/078, 29,794.38 metric tons of paddy was produced in the district but in the current fiscal year, only 25,151.10 metric tons was produced, said Sanjay Kumar Pandit, Information Extension Officer, Knowledge Center. According to the office, the productivity of paddy in the district was 1.95 metric tonnes per hectare this year as against 2.31 metric tonnes per hectare last year.Paddy was cultivated in 12,898 hectares in Khaetang, which has two municipalities and eight villages. Due to timely rains and planting, paddy production was estimated to be lower this year than last. However, farmers are worried about the decline in paddy production as a major crop. Farmer Ishwar Kumar Shrestha of Diktel Rupakot Mazhuwagadi Municipality-3 Bamrang said that the production of straw has also decreased due to the decay of fallen paddy plants.
