In foreign employment, 20.8 percent Nepalis go without training

A study has shown that 20.8 percent of Nepalis go for foreign employment without any orientation training.

A study prepared by the Federation of Nepal Trade Unions (GEFONT) in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO) and other organizations in collaboration with the online platform Recruitment Advisor has shown that According to Dr.Jeevan Baniya, the study included 1,593 foreign workers.

It is seen that the foreign employment has reached 84.1 percent after taking orientation training and becoming aware of various issues. Similarly, the study has shown that those who go for foreign employment pay an average of Rs 125,000. In which maximum two lakh 25 thousand have been paid and minimum 50 thousand has been paid.

19.5 percent of those who go for foreign employment have said that they have not received any contract. 5 percent said they did not understand the agreement. Ninety-five percent said the agreement was in language.

Studies have shown that many people do not get the job as stated in the agreement. The study showed that 65.2 percent got the job as promised. 34.8 percent said they had to work differently than agreed.

There is a problem that Nepalis going for foreign employment have to do forced labor. Such a problem is seen when the passport is kept by the employer. Baniyan explains.

The study found that 95.5 percent could not keep their own passports. 4.5 percent said they were able to keep their own passports. Similarly, 73.6 percent said that they will not go back to the old company when they go for foreign employment. 26.4 percent said they would like to join the same company.

“It seems that the situation of Nepalis working, eating and living is not good,” he said. Baniya said.
