Government decides to extend current school year until mid-July
Kathmandu, February 18
The government has decided to extend this year academic session until mid-July for all schools across the country.
Deepak Sharma, The Ministry of Education Spokesperson says, Only after mid- July, the new academic session from grades 1-12 will start. Usually, in Nepal a school year starts from April and ends in March. “But, we’ve decided to push the current session two months away”, says the minister. He also added that the education regulation allows the government to change the academic calendar in case of any emergencies like: Epidemic, Disaster or any valid reason.
However, the government has limited the curricula to 70 percent this year, and despite of extension of the session it is still challenging for the school and students to complete the course on time, as the physical classes have just started properly.
The president of the National Private and Boarding School’s Association Nepal (NPABSAN), Ritu Raj Sapkota informs, that schools are under great pressure to complete the course.
