Five journalists arrested in Afghanistan after the formation of the Taliban government

Five journalists have been arrested in Afghanistan since the formation of the Taliban government.

Five journalists from a Kabul-based newspaper were arrested on Wednesday, the day after the new caretaker government was formed.

Jackie Daryabi, editor-in-chief of Itilatros, has confirmed the arrest of five of his fellow journalists.

“Five of my fellow journalists working for the Etilatros daily have been arrested in Kabul by Taliban militants,” he wrote on Twitter.

After the Taliban seized power, they made a commitment to the international community, fully respecting the freedom of the press and expression, and the rights of journalists. But the day after Taliwan formed the caretaker government.

Various international bodies have called on the Taliban to fully respect freedom of the press and expression and not to violate human rights.
