Kathmandu. Although the government aims to reduce the import of cooking gas by increasing the production of electricity through the budget, the import has almost doubled in one year. Due to the increase in gas demand in the market, the import has increased. The import amount of gas in the country has doubled in one year.

Due to the increase in the price in the international market, gas has been imported almost twice as compared to the previous year. According to Nepal Oil Corporation, five lakh 36 thousand 566 metric tons of gas worth 61 billion rupees has been imported in the financial year 2078/79.

In this way, the price of per metric ton of gas has reached 1 lakh 14 thousand 796 rupees during the review period. Before that, in the year 2077/78, four lakh 81 thousand 258 metric tons of gas worth 34 billion rupees was imported. During that period, the price of per metric ton of gas is only 71 thousand 197 rupees. According to this calculation, the price of per metric ton of gas has increased by 43 thousand 599 rupees within a year.

Corporation spokesperson Vineetmani Upadhyay said that due to the increase in the price in the international market, almost double the amount of gas has been imported. On the other hand, he informed that even though the annual consumption has increased by 13 percent, the import of gas is increasing.
