Increasing participation of women in the stock market

From the general meeting of every company, the presence of women in the broker’s office is increasing. Until a few years ago, the attraction of women was only in the primary market, but now it is also significant in the secondary market.

The number of women joining the stock market has reached more than 24 lakh 73 thousand. According to the records of CDS and Clearing Limited till the last financial year, based on the demat accounts opened, a study conducted by the Nepal Securities Board showed that 57.5 percent of men and 42.5 percent of women participated in the stock market.

A total of 53 lakh 46 thousand demat accounts were opened in 2079, 37 lakh 89 thousand in 2078, 17 lakh 53 thousand in 2077, 15 lakh 70 thousand in 2076. On the basis of age group, 14.5 percent of up to 18 years, 35.7 percent of 18 to 30 years, 24.2 percent of 31 to 40 years, 26.6 percent of 41 to 60 years, 2.6 percent of 61 and above demat account received by the board. It is mentioned in the report.

The highest number of demat accounts opened up to the end of June of the last fiscal year was in Bagmati province with 38.1 percent i.e. 22 lakh 16 thousand, in Koshi province 18.9 percent i.e. 10 lakh 99 thousand, in Gandaki province 13.3 percent i.e. 7 lakh 72 thousand, in Lumbini province 11. 4 percent i.e. 6 lakh 61 thousand, 10.3 percent i.e. 6 lakh 1 thousand in Madhesh province, 5.8 percent i.e. 3 lakh 37 thousand in Sudurpaschim province and least 1 lakh 34 thousand in Karnali province have opened demat accounts.

Not only educated and employed women, but also ordinary housewives have started coming to the secondary market. It has become easier with the development and expansion of technology. The facility of trading in the stock market from home through online has also increased the number of women coming to this sector.
