As the price of petroleum products increase, the black market has started growing
With the rise in the price of petroleum products, the black market has started growing. Although the process of increase in the price of other commodities is natural due to the increase in the price of petroleum products due to the increase in the price of petroleum products, the entrepreneurs have started increasing the prices of warehouse goods from the day after the fuel became more expensive.
The Nepal Oil Corporation had increased the price of petrol by Rs 21 per liter and diesel and kerosene by Rs 27 per liter since Sunday night. Along with the increase in fuel prices by the corporation, the Department of Transport Management has increased the fares of passenger and freight vehicles plying between the states from 5.30 percent to 7.7 percent according to the automatic price system.
It has been found that the traders have increased the prices of daily necessities and other commodities in the market from the next day after the department increased the freight from Monday. Traders have also increased the prices of goods stored in warehouses and shops for the past 2-3 months. The retail price of sugar has been fixed at Rs 105 per kg in the price list of the retail trade association. However, the same sugar has been found to be sold at Rs 110 per kg in the market.
The price of lentils has been increased by Rs 5 to Rs 180 per kg. Mustard oil, which costs Rs 380 per liter, is being sold at Rs 385 to Rs 390 in the market. According to the daily price list of Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market, the retail price of lamb has gone up from Rs 30 per kg to Rs 60 per kg. They have started charging Rs 50 per kg for bitter gourd up to Rs 80. The price of Rs 40 per kg of ladyfinger has reached Rs 60.
General Secretary of the Retail Trade Association Amul Kaji Tuladhar said that no complaint has been lodged in this regard. “Even though the price of fuel went up yesterday, from today onwards, if any trader thinks or does something that will increase the price of goods, then such wrong trend should be stopped,” he said. “The tendency we have is that if there is a Russia-Ukraine war or if the price of fuel goes up in the market, it will have an effect on the price from the next day. The goods we are selling are already in stock in the warehouse, ‘he said. Fuel prices rise from tomorrow
The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has stated that the market monitoring in April and May was double than last April. As there is adequate market monitoring, the department has stated that the price should not be to the liking of the traders.
Lila Prasad Sharma, director general of the department, said that there was no shortage of work in the market even though only 10 people from the department had 40 employees. However, consumer rights activists have accused the Commerce Department of lacking effective monitoring of market prices. According to Madhav Timilsina, chairman of the Consumer Rights Research Forum, the government has not monitored the market as effectively as it used to.
He said that the problem will remain until the scientific price system is implemented. On the whole, the general public has been overwhelmed by the huge increase in the price of petroleum products on the one hand and the black market on the other. People are complaining that they are worried about how to run in the coming days.
It doesn’t matter to the people who work all day and eat in the evening, no matter which government comes, but to the people who are suffering from extreme inflation, the price would have been reduced anyway.
