Millions of vehicles can’t get embossed number plates in 35 days ?
Transportation offices have stated that embossed number plates will not be installed by mid-July.
Transportation officials say embossed number plates cannot be affixed to millions of vehicles in 35 days.
The Department of Transport Management has asked to affix embossed number plates on all vehicles registered in Ekantakuna and Gurjudhara of the valley and Pokhara of Kaski by mid-July.
A total of 17,418 vehicles have been fitted with embossed number plates by February 2078.
According to the Economic Survey 2078, 38,300 embossed number plates were produced in 9,051 vehicles till July 2078 under the work of affixing embossed number plates on vehicles.
By the end of the current fiscal year, 135,300 embossed number plates have been produced and 8,003 vehicles have been connected.
Chief of the Transport Office, Kaski, Dilliram Rijal said that it was not possible to install embossed number plates on all vehicles in Pokhara till mid-July.
According to Rijal, 286,000 vehicles are registered at the Pokhara Transport Office. Of these, 220,000 are two-wheelers and 66,000 are four-wheelers.
In Pokhara, the transport department has connected a server in January. Embossed number plates have been installed since February.
“It doesn’t seem fair to take action if the embossed number plates are not affixed from July 1,” Rizal said. “The number plates of about 300,000 vehicles cannot be affixed in 35 days.”
He said that the embossed number plate will not be connected till mid-July and by 2080. He says that even if thousands are connected daily, the embossed number plate will not be connected in Kaski by 2080.
Up to 10 embossed number plates are being connected daily from Pokhara Transport Office. With the current manpower, embossed number plates can be attached to a maximum of 60 vehicles daily.
“We should not reject the state-run campaign,” he said. “We have done our best.” 100 two-wheelers and 90 four-wheelers have been fitted with embossed number plates.
Clients are not ready to attach embossed number plates
Dilliraj Rijal, head of Kaski’s transport management office, says the service recipients are reluctant to affix embossed number plates.
“Customers are not willing to pay Rs 2,500 for a motorcycle and Rs 3,200 for a four-wheeler to get an embossed number plate attached,” he said.
He said that apart from the fee, the service recipients are also hesitant due to the quality of the embossed number plate. He said that the service recipient was not ready as the embossed number plate was broken or damaged in a short time.
The state office does not have any equipment to read the embossed number plate. There is no benefit for the service recipient except paying the additional service fee and attaching the number plate immediately. Entrepreneurs operating public transport in Pokhara with private vehicles are protesting.
‘What do we get by attaching embossed number plates? Let’s make arrangements to pay taxes online instead. There is a complaint of the service recipient who is being asked to connect the unwanted plate, ‘he said. Probably a factor as to why they’re doing so poorly. “
Pokharel, head of the Transport Office, Ekantakuna, said that although there were no written complaints from the service recipients, there were many verbal complaints about embossed number plates.
The embossed number plate kept today falls off one day when it comes off the road ‘, he said about the complaint of the service recipient coming to the office,’ the data of the embossed number has not been entered in the transport office. There is a need to look for old number plates even when paying tax on embossed number plates. ‘
He said that the service recipients have been verbally complaining about the hassle of the service by attaching embossed number plates.
