Italian Airways pilot fired for sleeping

The pilot of Italian airline ITA Airways has been fired for allegedly falling asleep on a flight from New York to Rome on April 30.

The plane, en route from New York to Rome, Italy, landed at 38,000 feet in the French sky, with no reaction for 10 minutes.

No response was forthcoming from French authorities, who warned Italian authorities that the Airbus A330 could be hijacked by terrorists.

The ITA speculated that the pilot and co-pilot may have been asleep for some time while the cockpit was under control.

The report states that the co-pilot has been given the right to controlled rest and has been granted permission under certain protocols. However, the captain of the plane had to wake up during this period.

The pilots said they had made no mistake and that French authorities could not be reached for comment.

After receiving no response from the plane, French authorities alerted the two fighter jets to what was happening in the cockpit. The French authorities had contacted the airline ITA after Italian authorities were informed that the plane may have been a possible terrorist attack. ITA then tried to reach the pilot via satellite phone.

Both pilots responded 10 minutes later, and French authorities suspended the terror alert. The plane landed in Rome 20 minutes earlier than scheduled.

According to the ITA, the pilot was fired for not following the procedure during and after the flight while investigating the incident. The company said no agreement was reached on passenger safety during the incident. – Agency
