From tomorrow, you will be able to apply for e-passport. From now on, national identity card will be mandatory for issuing passport
Kathmandu. Applications for e-passport will be available from tomorrow. However, national identity card has been made mandatory for this. Passport Department Spokesperson Sharad Raj Aran said that no one can apply for an electronic passport without a national identity card. Although the distribution of electronic passports started on November 20, it has been issuing ‘Machine Readable Passports’ (MRPs) till Monday. Now only application for electronic passport can be taken. Only those who have applied before will get MRP.
National Identity Card is being issued by 77 District Administration Offices. The government initially distributed national identity cards in only a few districts. Later, the identity cards were issued from all the districts.
Citizenship is required to obtain a national identity card. When applying for an identity card, you need to mention your citizenship certificate number, date of issue of citizenship, district issued and type of citizenship. The person who has already taken the passport has to submit the original or a copy of the passport.
