44 Die in Stampede at Religious Fair in Israel

At least 44 people have been killed in a stampede at a religious fair in northeastern Israel.

The death toll could rise as more people were injured in the stampede, said David Edom of the National Emergency Rescue Center. So far, 44 people have been killed and more than 100 injured, according to a local newspaper. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it a “terrible disaster” and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

In the midst of the Corona virus epidemic, tens of thousands of people attended the fair on Mount Maron. The religious fair, which was halted due to the Corona epidemic last year, was crowded this year.

People had come to the fair from yesterday afternoon to evening. At the same time, the authorities expected that more people would be added to the fair throughout the day. After running away from the program, the participants of the fair have started returning.
