India Government stopped printing 2,000 rupee paper notes
Kathmandu, March 16
The Indian government has stopped printing paper notes of Rs 2,000. It is said that the decision was taken by the central government to control black money and prevent such deposits.
On Monday, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur said that the printing of 2,000 rupee notes in the Lok Sabha has been stopped for the last two years.
According to Thakur, 3.36 billion was printed till March 30, 2018 and 2.49 billion was printed till February 26, 2021.
The Reserve Bank of India has not yet decided to reprint the currency as directed by the government. According to the Economic Times, the Reserve Bank of India first started printing paper notes of rupee 2,000 since 2016.
The government had imposed a ban on Indian Rupees of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 to curb black money and printing of counterfeit notes. But later the central bank again printed 500 rupee notes and sent them to the market. At present, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Indian rupees are in circulation in India.
